History of the Boy Scouts
Before going into the history of the Boy Scouts of America, lets look at the history of the Boy Scouts in England, where it all began.
Robert Baden Powell, a man who was known for his odd military scouting tactics, wrote a book called Aids to Scouting. This book had a lot of his methods on scouting and remaining unseen by an enemy. He found that boys were reading his military book for the outdoor skills that were in it.
In 1907 he took a group of boys to Brownsea Island (shown left and above) to test them on an idea of his. After the trip he rewrote his book and called it Scouting for Boys, and scouting was born.
Boy Scouts spread across England, then across the rest of the World. The Boy Scouts of America is mostly credited to a man called William Boyce.
